Thaw is Sam and Jym from Loop Guru.
'Holy Cat' is an ecstatic fusion of sacred chant and urban shamanic trance. The sound
of the chant is spliced to deep beats and weighty basslines, resulting in a truly
unique collision of ancient and modern trance music.
'Holy Cat' is the first new material from Loop Guru family in five years (other
than Slipper, an outfit featuring Sam and Rat Scabies of The Damned, who released
an album on Aphex Twin's Rephlex Label). Loop Guru are recognised as one of the pioneers
of global fusion music, picking up five Singles of the Week in NME and Melody
Maker, and remixing a host of artists, including Jean-Michael Jarre and
Pop Will Eat Itself.
Having already played live among the great and the good, Thaw are set to appear on
the festival circuit this summer.
"Devotional music was traditionally intended to draw people into a state of
self-forgotten ectasy," says Sam of Thaw. " This ancient impulse has been
watered down into the staid sounds of the religious and the new age, or the more
sel-focused feel of modern trance. 'Holy Cat" will be the remedy."
